BLF's launch new Asbestos Awareness Campaign for Trades

The British Lung Foundation have launched a brand new Take 5 Stay Alive campaign aimed specifically at the trades.

The earlier Take 5 Stay Alive campaign was targeted a DIYers with limited knowledge on the potential danger of disturbing and inhaling asbestos during home improvements.

Since the BLF have undertaken a survey of tradespeople and established that a real danger still exists through like of understanding within the trades that asbestos is STILL a risk.

Whilst asbestos has been banned and is highly unlikely to be found in properties constructed after 2000, asbestos was so used so prolifically prior to the ban that it can still be found in millions of properties in the UK including homes and public buildings such as schools and hospitals.

4,500 people die every year in the UK due to asbestos related diseases. 20 a week are trades people including 4 plumbers, 6 electricians and 8 joiners (source: HSE)  the other 20 are made of those less obviously exposed such as the family of trades people, teachers, architects, surveyors etc.

Please visit the new Take 5 Stay Alive campaign website and make sure you pass it to anyone you know who works in the trades.
